Which Way Are You Leaning?

“Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.”

(John 13:23)

As I swept water from my flooded basement, I thought how grateful I was that my mature home of 26 years had settled into a slight slant away from the foundation, toward the drive and not the other way.

While working on the cleanup effort, I heard the Lord ask, “which way are you leaning?”

I had to take a pause because just like this house, if I lean the right way, it means I have help for my situations and I can expect minimal damage.

Because of the leaning in my unfortunate household situation, the water was easier to guide to the outside.

To lean toward the house would have been more costly, more detrimental to the foundation and would have required more muscle, but when we lean the right way (God's way), we have that help we need, we have guidance; ultimately, we have success.

Leaning in the wrong direction means toiling, resistance and possibly some structural damage.

Which way are you leaning to do this thing called, life?

Proverbs 3 says, “Lean not to thine own understanding, but in all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy path.”

Are you leaning toward God’s divine guidance or are you leaning toward your own know-how?

When we trust our finite understanding and limited visions, we're setting ourselves up for failure with trouble leading the way.

When we lean in the right direction, we are headed straight toward VICTORY - in Christ Jesus.

Lean on the Lord!!
