HOLD ON, I’M COMING

"Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering;

(for he is faithful that promised;)"

(Heb. 10:23,KJV)

Growing up in the sixties listening to Motown and Stax artists, one of my favorite duos was Sam and Dave.

As I read Hebrews 10:23, one of their old hits came to mind, “Hold on, I’m coming.”

I know it was written for another reason in the R&B genre; however, since I have God-vision now, I see God in all things.

The lyrics to the song were written as personal promises of people in love, to express their commitment to one another.

Well, I'm in love with Jesus and He is totally committed to me.

Without a doubt, Isaac Hayes, David Porter and any other studio collaborators involved, probably had no clue God was using their gifts in penning these lyrics, but I believe God is saying to us what they were saying between lovers.

“Don't you ever Be sad. Lean on me When the times get bad. When the day comes And you are down,

In a river of trouble And ready to drown, Well just hold on, I'm coming. Just hold on, I'm coming. I'm on my way, Your lover And if you get cold, I'll be your cover You never have to worry, 'Cause I'm here Don't need to suffer, 'Cause I'm near Just hold on, I'm coming. Hold on. Yeah, I'm coming. Hold on, I'm coming. Oh, hold on, I'm coming.” (Recorded at Stax Recording Studio / Atlantic Records,

written by Isaac Hayes and David Porter,

performed by Sam & Dave, 1966)

There is a sweet, satisfying comfort in knowing help is on the way. Hold on.

Whatever you are waiting on God to do today, I encourage you to hold on, to hold fast.

"Hold fast that which is good." (1 thess 5:21)

"Hold fast the faithful word." (Titus 1:9)

"Hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope." (Hebrews 3:6)

"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." (Gal. 6:9)

Don’t quit, don’t give up, don’t decide it’s over and done with; don’t become discouraged and don’t lose hope.

Keep standing on God's promises, believing in his word and just continue to trust what Isaiah told us in 40:31, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

You will make it.

You will survive it.

You can do it.

You can endure it.

You shall WIN!

Just call on Jesus and then hold on, because He is coming to see about you!
