Reaping What You Sow
"...whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."
(Gal. 6:7)
Once a month, I prepare and serve Saturday lunch at a homeless shelter for approximately 65 women and children.
Since I had worked (full-time), assisted in family schedules and travelled several evenings to support my church affiliation's leadership during the week, I ended up cooking during the wee hours of this particular Saturday morning.
I was moving slowly. I woke up and had no voice above a whisper. I was congested and weary in my body, but my mind reflected over the smiles and gratitude of the residents and the joy it brings to my helpers, so I found the wherewithal to press my way and bake pan after pan of spaghetti.
I had been preparing since 3:00 A.M. and about 8:00, my dog began to bark at something outside the window.
When I looked out, I saw a strange man and a truck.
My phone rang and I almost didn't answer. But, I did.
The voice on the other end said, "Good Morning. I have sent someone to your house to do your yard. I know you are busy!"
I was blown away.
While I was trying to be a blessing to some folks, someone decided to be a blessing to me.
I thought - how awesome is our God, who is always looking out for us. Before we can ask, He has already answered.
We shall reap what we sow.
This reciprocity of kindness may seem insignificant to some, but it meant the world to me - it was, both, unexpected and much needed.
I had plans to do the yard work myself, but by the time my service was done for the day, it was raining. Again.
God already knew it would be, so He worked it all out. He touched a heart on my behalf - and I am grateful.
He does exceeding and abundantly more than we can ask or think - according to the power that works in us.
We shall reap what we sow.
Previously, I associated these words of wisdom as mainly a warning against doing evil or wrong, but my eyes were opened this day to the blessings that were being harvested in my very yard.
Although, I do not do good with a mind of receiving, we can expect it because God said it.
The songwriter penned, 'You can't beat God's giving, no matter how you try. The more you give, the more He gives to you... Keep on giving because it's really true!"
We shall reap what we sow.
"He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly;
and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully."
(2 Cor. 9:6)
